Mission Statement

​

Action West Loch is a community conservation organisation, applying for SCIO status with OSCR, dedicated to protecting and restoring the living landscapes and waters of West Loch Tarbert — from its Atlantic rainforest and native woodlands to the burns, shorelines, seagrass beds and marine habitats of the loch itself — for the long-term benefit of nature and the communities who depend on it.

Charitable Purposes

​

Action West Loch advances environmental protection and education for public benefit by:

​

• Protecting and restoring habitats across the West Loch Tarbert catchment, including native and temperate rainforest woodland, riparian corridors, wetlands, freshwater systems and marine environments.

• Promoting sustainable land and forestry management that safeguards soils, water quality and biodiversity, including encouraging alternatives to large-scale clear-felling where these offer superior ecological outcomes.

• Supporting scientific monitoring and survey work of burns, shorelines, shellfish waters, seagrass meadows, reefs and other sensitive habitats, to build local knowledge and guide evidence-based restoration.

• Educating and involving the public, especially young people and those living around the loch, in practical conservation, environmental monitoring and responsible stewardship of local habitats.

• Working collaboratively with farmers, fishers, foresters, landowners, scientists, public bodies and local businesses to advance a healthier and more ecologically resilient West Loch Tarbert.

• Promoting sustainable local livelihoods and food systems that strengthen the connection between people, place and nature, and demonstrate that thriving communities and thriving ecosystems are mutually reinforcing.​
